Evacuation Collaboration Improves Safety in Oak Creek Valley

It was concerned community members who first approached BCF with the hope that the Foundation could help solve a big problem – providing residents of the Oak Creek Valley with an evacuation route in the event of a wildfire. More than 5 years later, BCF has worked in collaboration with The Benton County Commissioners, the State of Oregon, Oregon State University, and a wide variety of other stakeholders to make this critical safety resource a reality.

Surrounded by dense woodlands, this beautiful area outside of Corvallis is cherished by homeowners as well as nature lovers year-round. The Oak Creek Valley evacuation route is designed to provide these 1,300 residents and visitors with a second form of egress in the event of a disaster and ultimately to save lives.

The new evacuation route is the result of community inspiration, local action, and collaboration between motivated stakeholders. The success of this project exemplifies the role BCF plays as a central unifier and changemaker in our region, well beyond the core mission of providing vital funding. On Jan. 24th, the Beton County Commissioners hosted a tour and celebration of the collaborative efforts that made this project possible. BCF President & CEO, Chris Quaka addressed the gathering to share the Foundation’s deep gratitude for the efforts of all community partners who worked together.
