Charlies F. & Elaine Mellen Sutherland Education Fund

Charlies F. Sutherland received his Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from the University of Idaho in 1948, his Master of Forestry from the University of Idaho in 1954, and his Ph.D. in Forestry Economics from the University of Michigan in 1961. Mr. Sutherland worked as a Forester for several years before coming to Oregon State University and worked from 1959 to 1985 as an Associate Professor, teaching Forest Economics in the College of Forestry.

Elaine Mellen Sutherland received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of Idaho in 1956, and her MHEc in Home Economics Education from Oregon State University in 1968. Mrs. Sutherland worked as a teacher in both Idaho and Oregon public schools, 14 of those years in Philomath. From 1979 to 1990, Mrs. Sutherland worked as an Instructor in the College of Home Economics and Education.

The Charles F. and Elaine Mellen Sutherland Education Fund will provide scholarships to one student in each of the College of Forestry, and the College of Public Health and Human Services. These scholarships will be awarded for undergraduate students, with a preference given to minority students who are citizens of the United States, and/or international graduate students.
