Adam R. Lulay was born November 14, 1979 in Salem, Oregon. Adam entered the Minnesota Army Nation Guard on November 19, 1999, as an 88M (transportation). He left for basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, in June 2000 and graduated at the top of his class. He also received honors and a coin for the highest PT score in the battalion for that year. The following year he went to AIT, where he again graduated at the top of his class and again earned an Army achievement medal for the highest PT score. He was activated once while in Minnesota to help with a statewide strike. Upon receiving an Assosciate of Arts degree and graduating with honors from Hibbing College, he transferred to the Oregon Army National Guard in November, 2001 and joined A-141 SPT BN.
Adam continued his education at Western Oregon University, working toward his degree in sports and exercise science. While in Oregon he chose to make a life-altering decision and joined ROTC in the spring of 2002. He did well as an MSIII and completed the National Advanced Leadership Course (NALC) where he was ranked in the 300s nationally. He then completed Airborne school at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was a simultaneous membership program (SMP) cadet and platoon leader at his National Guard unit and took over as the XO and PT and weight control officer. In early 2005, Adam completed the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course. Following that, the Oregon National Guard sent him to Fort Rucker, Alabama, to attend flight school.
Adam has coached football at WOU and enjoys fishing, hunting, and water and snow skiing. He played football in both high school and college. Even before graduating, Adam committed to helping future ROTC cadets with their education and established this endowed scholarship fund.
